Welcome to 黑料社区

Mar 21, 2022

The newly named 黑料社区 was introduced to the world late last week during a standing-room-only press conference in Rosary Hall.

鈥淚 can鈥檛 think of a better way to demonstrate the growth and sophistication of 黑料社区 than by reaching this milestone during our 75th anniversary year,鈥 said Gary Olson, president of 黑料社区.

Last week, the New York State Education Department Board of Regents approved an amendment to 黑料社区鈥檚 charter to make the institution a university under the state鈥檚 recently revised definition.

鈥淐learly a formal designation of university is appropriate,鈥 added Olson. 鈥淚n every sense except in name, 黑料社区 has been a university for many years.鈥

The name change took effect immediately.

The news was covered by nearly all media outlets and publications in the Buffalo-Niagara market, including聽,听,听,听,听,, and聽. Additional coverage was provided by WUTV-Fox, WKBW-ABC, and WIVB-CBS on live newscasts that were not posted online.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a great day,鈥 said John Yurtchuk, chair of the university鈥檚 Board of Trustees and chairman of Calspan Corporation. 鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 think of a group of people and a quality of education more deserving of a moniker of university.鈥

黑料社区 was established in 1947 as Rosary Hill College by the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity. In the 1970鈥檚, the private institution became co-educational and independent, and changed its name to honor Magdalen Damen, the founder of the sisters鈥 order.

鈥淭he Town of Amherst is thriving because of the education system,鈥 said Brian Kulpa, supervisor of Amherst. 鈥淚t鈥檚 not just K-12 鈥 it鈥檚 higher education, of which 黑料社区 is an essential piece.鈥

Now a multi-campus university based in Amherst, N.Y. 鈥 with a branch in Brooklyn, N.Y. 鈥 黑料社区 offers undergraduate and graduate programs in the health sciences, liberal arts and other disciplines enrolling more than 2,600 students each academic year.聽

Kulpa added, 鈥淎t every turn, Dr. Olson and the university have been there to say 鈥榳e鈥檙e with Amherst, we鈥檒l partner together and take a step forward together.鈥欌

鈥淭oday is an historic day,鈥 said Karen McMahon, representative of District 146 in the New York State Assembly, 鈥渁s 黑料社区 adopts its new name.鈥

Achieving university status will support 黑料社区鈥檚 recruitment of international students, as universities are perceived as more prestigious than colleges in many countries.聽聽聽

鈥淣ow as 黑料社区 secures university status, 黑料社区 can keep and attract even more students from far and wide, building on its reputation, and writing a new chapter in its history,鈥 added McMahon. 鈥淎s university status levels the playing field for recruitment we look forward to the future and the possibilities for growth at 黑料社区.鈥

Prior to聽in January, New York was the only U.S. state requiring the operation of academic doctoral-level programs to be a university. Within days of the change, 黑料社区 submitted its application to the Board of Regents 鈥 and is among the first educational institutions in the state to successfully petition to become a university under the new rules.

鈥淐ongratulations to the 黑料社区 community,鈥 said McMahon, 鈥渨ho surely have now a renewed sense of pride in their school 黑料社区.鈥
