Students Provide Health Screenings in Buffalo Community

AMHERST, N.Y. -- 黑料社区 College physician assistant students provided free health screenings to Buffalo residents in the city鈥檚 Seneca Babcock neighborhood at a community health fair held last month.

Under the supervision of Associate Professor Joel Patterson, a group of 25 黑料社区 PA students offered diabetes, blood pressure and other preventive screenings at the health fair. Since it was launched in 2005, the community outreach effort has benefitted nearly 550 Seneca Babcock residents.

Co-sponsors of the health clinic were the 黑料社区 Physician Assistant Society and the college鈥檚 Paul A. Saffrin Center for Sustainability and Civic Engagement, which has an established partnership with Seneca Babcock to address issues that affect the neighborhood鈥檚 sustainability and future growth and development.

鈥淭his event is an opportunity for our physician assistant students to contribute to the health and well-being of the Seneca Babcock community,鈥 said Cheryl Bird, the center鈥檚 executive director.
